Amanita Design has done it again! Creaks is the latest title from Amanita, a studio renowned for its environmental puzzle games that tell stories without any dialogue. The studio’s library takes players on a journey through worlds unknown, with charming characters and fun puzzles to solve. Creaks is the same in this regard, however, I would venture to say that this new installment ups the difficulty quite a bit compared to previous games.
The premise of Creaks is that our main character finds a secret tunnel at the back of his room and, going full Coraline, decides to crawl through it out of morbid curiosity. It doesn’t take too long, however, for our hero to reach the point of no return and have no choice but to continue down into the bowels of this strange world filled with creatures just as odd and a giant monster lurking around the edges of the screen.
Creaks takes the player through a few dozen scenes, each with their own puzzles to solve and slowly ramping up the difficulty with new mechanics and creatures - some of which can be quite troublesome! Eventually it is revealed that the residents of this world got a little ahead of themselves in the field of science and the hero must assist them in righting their wrongs. Hurray, plot!
If you enjoy puzzle games, great music, snickering enemies and bird people, Creaks is the game for you! If you enjoy this game, I’d like to recommend the rest of Amanita Design’s library as well.
